What Should I Wear to My Acupuncture Appointment?
Movassaghi • June 17, 2026

If you’ve never had acupuncture before, it’s completely normal to have questions before your first visit. One of the most common questions people ask is: “What should I wear to my appointment?”

The good news is that you do not need to purchase special clothing or prepare anything complicated before your visit. The most important thing is simply being comfortable.

Comfortable Clothing Is Best

Loose, comfortable clothing is usually recommended for acupuncture appointments. Soft clothing that allows easy access to areas like the arms, lower legs, shoulders, or back can help make treatment more comfortable and convenient.

Many people choose to wear:

  • Loose pants or leggings
  • T-shirts
  • Sweatshirts
  • Comfortable tops
  • Clothing that is easy to move in

What Happens During Treatment?

Depending on your treatment plan, certain acupuncture points may be located on the arms, legs, shoulders, abdomen, or back. In many cases, treatments can still be performed while you remain fully clothed.

Some patients may be asked to remove shoes or socks during treatment if acupuncture points on the feet or lower legs are being used. If treatment involves the back or shoulders, your practitioner will explain everything beforehand and ensure you are comfortable throughout the process.

Comfort is always the priority.

Tips Before Your Appointment

It’s also important to remember that acupuncture appointments are meant to be calming and relaxing experiences. Wearing clothing that helps you feel at ease can make it easier to fully relax during your session.

A few additional tips before your appointment:

  • Avoid arriving extremely hungry
  • Stay hydrated
  • Try to arrive a few minutes early if possible
  • Wear minimal restrictive clothing when comfortable
  • Bring any questions you may have

A Relaxing Experience

Many first-time patients are surprised by how peaceful and relaxing acupuncture sessions can feel. Creating a comfortable environment is an important part of helping patients feel supported during their visit.

If you have questions before your appointment, our team is always happy to help guide you through the process and help you feel prepared and comfortable before your visit.

You finally sit down after a busy day. Dinner is finished, the house is quiet, and you’re ready to enjoy a book or watch your favorite show. Then it starts—that uncomfortable feeling in your legs. You shift positions, stretch, and eventually get up to walk around. Moving helps, but when you sit down again, the sensation returns. For people living with restless legs syndrome, this can be a familiar evening routine. The frustration often begins well before bedtime. Why quiet moments can feel so restless Restless legs syndrome, or RLS, typically involves an urge to move the legs, often accompanied by sensations described as crawling, pulling, aching, or an internal restlessness. Symptoms tend to begin or worsen during rest, become more noticeable in the evening or at night, and improve temporarily with movement. That is why sitting through a movie, taking a long car ride, or relaxing on the couch can become uncomfortable. RLS can interfere with the ordinary moments you look forward to—the chance to unwind, enjoy time with family, or simply sit comfortably.
